In 2022, Franklin High School brought out Majorette which is a club, so students can experience the different dance skills that are combined all into one.
Majorettes was created at the school by Maria Ame, who was a cheerleader coach for one year at FHS. Coach Maria asked Coach Carter if she would like to be in charge of the majorettes, and she said yes. Coach Maria started putting things together to make it available for students here to participate in the club.
Majorettes are here at the school to show school spirit and expose others to different types of dancing. Other high schools are now expanding Majorettes so more students can experience more dance types.
Majorettes came from black culture, where the dances are jazz, ballet, hip-hop, and African dance. This dance is more for dancing with bands and giving high energy to the audience. Majorettes were created in the 60s. Majorettes are an entertainment for sporting events, cultural events, etc. also a skill development and sisterhood.
Carter wishes more girls this year and beyond can join the Majorette club and show people the dance skills they learned.
Here are some teammates from this year Majorettes who will share their experience of 2025-26
