The new Delta College Dual Enrollment Program (DEP) provides high school students with the opportunity to take college-level classes, giving them a head start on their education while still completing their high school requirements. Through this opportunity, students can earn both high school and college credits simultaneously, allowing them not to spend as much money on their future college education.
Franklin High School counselor Norma Cabrera said, “Dual Enrollment is an excellent program because it allows students to take college courses in high school instead of waiting until after high school graduation; including that, enrolling and taking either class will earn you both high school and college credits.”
Participating in the program can help students add to their high school transcripts in ways that may impress future college admissions staff and assist students in gaining acceptance to a university.
Cabrera said she strongly recommends the dual enrollment program to all students.
This program is free — students don’t have to pay any fees, tuition, or for books, and there are various classes to choose from. You can enroll in up to 15 units per semester. Classes are held in person or online, allowing students to gain college academic credits and prepare for a future career pathway, and shortening the time needed to complete their degree.
Students can email their school counselor, or email: [email protected] to apply or ask any questions.
