On Tuesday, Nov. 25, Franklin High School’s Plant Club, lead by club president Alexandra Archuleta and adviser Alexis Ortega, embarked a group visit to volunteer at the local animal shelter, Delta Human Society.
As soon as we arrived, we were met with happy smiles and greeted by excited baby pups and curious cats.
The staff on site were more than happy to give us a tour of the facilities and explain how the place is run and the core values. Delta Humane Society is one of the few no-kill shelters in Stockton and is also a completely non-profit organization.
Volunteering at the shelter included various tasks such as cleaning cages, filling food and water bowls, and organizing inventory. Although the most fulfilling task was helping the animals with socialization, spending time and playing with them.
Some of us spent time with all the energetic dogs, whilst others relaxed with the cats and gave them many pets. It was plenty of fun as well as helpful, in the way it taught us many new skills.
It definitely brought everyone together; club, staff, and the animals especially when they showed their playful personalities.
After we finished, we all took a break and the wonderful staff had brought pizza, drinks, and snacks for all of our volunteers to enjoy.
We had a great time sharing food whilst sharing our favorite parts of the day. The trip was both fun and meaningful. We helped out a wonderful group of staff at the shelter, bonded as a club, and had a great time taking care of the most adorable animals. It was a great experience and great opportunity for everyone involved.
