FHS students learn animation skills through creation of flipbook project

In the art world, flipbooks are commonly known among artists. A flipbook is a series of illustrations put together to create the illusion of motion when being flipped through. Flipbooks are easily made with simple supplies such as paper, a writing tool, and a binder clip or rubber band to bind the flipbook. Flipbooks are fun to interact with and create.

In the last weeks of December 2023, Alexis Ortega, an Art teacher here at Franklin High School, had her students create their own flipbooks.

Students completed several steps in order to create their flipbooks. First, the students researched the basics of creating a flipbook using this YouTube video.

Next, students brainstormed ideas, created front covers, designed their characters and storyboards, and lastly put together their flipbooks using light tables in order to maintain consistency across all the pages. To view some of the completed flipbooks, visit this link.
